Radiohead /// A Moon Shaped Pool

A Moon Shaped Pool Album Cover

Radiohead's Ninth Studio Album is a hit. With mostly new sounds and some reminiscent progressions this album is just what we needed.

With 11 tracks this album is both relaxing, and exciting. Track 1 "Burn the Witch", also being the first single released from the album, is a fast paced, well orchestrated masterpiece topped with Thom Yorke's notoriously haunting vocals for the perfect balance of a song you want to hear. The video for this song is pretty ironic as it seems to depict the one leading the hunt (for witches) end up getting burned in the end leaving an indecisive message left to be interpreted. With Thom Yorke fancying political satire in lyrics, one can only wonder if this has a political target message.

Track 2 "Daydreaming" which is the second single from the album is an entrancing climb into chaos with multiple layers of dissonant fading sounds being added in towards the end of the song leaving off with an unsettling but fitting demonic voice repeating an indistinguishable sentence over and over. The video for this song is a spot on representation of someone who is daydreaming, going through the daily motions without really paying much attention to your surroundings and is a perfect match to the song in its slow climb to chaos ending in Thom walking through snow up a mountain into a cave where he lies down and eventually falls asleep.

My favorite of the songs being tied between "Present Tense" and "The Numbers" in an undecided bout between an all new experience, and one that is a neoclassic polyphonic sound that is both reminiscent of previous Radiohead, also with slight Beck overtones both being very impressive feats of musical knowledge and talent.

Finally the last song on the album "True Love Waits" is a much more emotional version of a song first released as a live track in 1995, leaving us close to tears from the touching vocals atop the highly reverb-clad piano ending the album leaving us satisfied, but also wanting more.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more! #GetHype
